NANNY/HOUSEKEEPER

Nanny/Housekeeper

Once children are of school age they naturally need far less supervision, being at school for several hours a day during term time. However, come the school holidays they will need full time care.

Duties. A nanny/housekeeper combines the duties of looking after the children and housekeeping. Their priority will be the children, when they are about, but otherwise will get on with, say, the laundry, or, cooking, housework, shopping, and so on. In CLICK nannies’ experience, it is important that both parties establish the exact combination of child-care and housekeeping to be undertaken, from the outset.

Conditions. Generally, a nanny/housekeeper  will be expected to work a five-day week from Monday to Friday, 10/11 hours a day, and live-in nannies/housekeepers will also baby-sit up to twice a week on weekdays. They usually receive 4.8 weeks paid holiday per year-which includes 4 bank holidays. Please click Contracts for more information on this.

Live-in nannies/housekeepers will expect their privacy to be respected when not on duty. It is a matter for negotiation between employer and the nanny/housekeeper as to whether they participate in family life (eg: joining in meals) when not on duty.
